  • Full Article
Scientific process occurred in seashore is the erosion in a seashore area and then to be transported so other area from the mentioned seashore area will form sediment. Sea wave is one of seashore processes that give great contribution to sediment transport rate. Sea wave can be measured directly or to be generated by using wind data. Due to limitation of resources the direct measurement to sea wave in long term is very rarely conducted so it is often to be conducted by using forecast method. In this research it is conducted sea wave forecast at Lebih Beach in order to continuously monitor the seashore processes that occur in Lebih Beach. By using wind data from BMKG of area III Denpasar it is conducted analysis of wind frequency distribution to get dominant wind direction and speed that has effect in Lebih Beach...............

Application of Cumulative Axle Model To Impute Missing Traffic Data in Defective AVC Stations

  • Abstract

  • Full Article
An automatic vehicle classification (AVC) station is typically composed of three sensors per lane. Instances of data missing from the traffic datasets collected at such stations can occur as a result of issues such as one of the sensors malfunctioning. Although various data imputation methods, such as autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), exponential smoothing, and interpolation, have been proposed to deal with this problem, they are either too complicated or have significant errors. This paper proposes a model, called the "cumulative axle model," that minimizes such errors in traffic volume data resulting from a malfunctioning sensor at AVC stations. Evaluations conducted in which missing traffic volume data imputation was simulated using the proposed cumulative axle model indicate that our method has a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 2.92%. This is significantly more accurate than that of conventional imputation methods, which achieve a MAPE of only 10% on average

  • Full Article
In this study we investigate volatility forecasting of REIT, from January 03, 2007 to November 18, 2016, using four GARCH models (GARCH, EGARCH, GARCH-GJR and APARCH). We examine the performance of these GARCH-type models respectively and backtesting procedures are also conducted to analyze the model adequacy. The empirical results display that when we take estimation of volatility in REIT into account, the EGARCH model, the GARCH-GJR model, and the APARCH model are adequate. Among all these models, GARCH-GJR model especially outperforms others.

Effect of Moisture on the Thermal Capacity of some Agricultural Wastes

  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Reference
  • Full Article
The effect of moisture content on the high heating value (calorific value) of groundnut shells, corn cobs, coconut shells and palm kernel shells were investigated using a bomb calorimeter. Results show that, generally, high heating values of all test samples decreased with increase in moisture level. Heating values of 18.795MJ/Kg at 9.34% moisture, 21.775MJ/Kg at 8.93% moisture, 39.972MJ/Kg at 8.26% moisture and 42.826MJ/Kg at 7.58% moisture were recorded for groundnut shells, corn cobs, coconut shells and palm kernel shells respectively. These heating values decreased to 9.65MJ/Kg, 12.25MJ/Kg, 15.421MJ/Kg and 16.553MJ/Kg at 24.0% moisture level for groundnut shells, corn cobs, coconut shells and palm kernel shells respectively. However, at all moisture levels, palm kernel shells had the highest heating values and were followed by coconut shells. Thus, with appropriate technology, these agricultural wastes could be converted to useful energy and also ensure a cleaner environment.

The axial flux permanent generator double stator- single rotor ((inner rotor) is presented in this paper. The aim study is find the relation between air gap size and output performance of the generator. By changing, the air gap size and observe the output generator are discussed. Torque types of the coreless AFPM generator (initial torque and electromagnetic torque) are calculated. The stators (S1 &S2) can be connected either in parallel to get more voltage or in series to get more current. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to calculate flux density of the permanent magnet at deferent air gap size by using (ANSOFT Maxwell) software. Also the output voltage sine wave of the generator and the phase angle between each pairs of the phases are verified. Moreover the output voltage can be controlled by control in air gap size, when the shaft speed was fixed is discussed.

  • Abstract

In developing nations GDP is not considered an adequate proxy of development. The per capita income, the quality of life , level of education are considered more relevant parameters of overall development. Economists, planners and researchers have been deliberating on this issue until in 1990 UNDP published Human Development Index [HDI] for all nations in its HDR report [6]. Although there have been several studies in this regard, however a machine learning based econometric model is not yet available which can establish the inter-relationship amongst these two variables in a quantified manner. This paper is an attempt in this direction to develop a model using machine learning approach .The model is implemented using Neural Network toolbox on MATLAB platform[10] with statistical data available from Planning Commission ,India and HDR report of UNDP. The model implementation result is found to be satisfactory. The methodology shown in this paper will be useful in preparing economic planning of India and other developing countries.

The aim of this project is to produce biodiesel from waste oil. The use of vegetable oils as diesel fuel started with the invention of diesel engines in the 1900s and is also common in many countries today. The fact that the oils used in biodiesel production are also an important input of the food industry is a limiting factor in production. For this reason, it is aimed to produce biodiesel from waste oil which can not be assessed in food production in this study. The most important contribution of the study to biodiesel researches is the establishment of a small-capacity biodiesel unit in laboratory conditions. The waste oils from the food production facilities of Namık Kemal University (NKU) have been collected and biodiesel has been produced using two different experimental methods.................

Behaviour Analysis of Corroded Wires Based on Statistical Models

  • Abstract

  • Full Article
Steel wires are the primary components of a lifting wire rope. The behaviour of a wire governs the behaviour of the whole of the cable. The physico-chemical processes like rates of degradation due to the environment (corrosion, etc.) are different for each layer, external layers being more exposed. The analysis of steel wires behaviour is traditionally based on statistical models describing the variability of its properties. For this purpose a statistical study was carried out on two populations of healthy and corroded wires by applying the Student distribution to select the most reliable results and the Weibull distribution to define the survival probability and the failure probability..................

The study aimed to analyze the composition and different proportions of nutrients in Greek type yogurt sold in the metropolitan region of Recife. This type of fermented milk had recent insertion and rapid market acceptance and taste of Brazilians. As production so young, it does not have specific legislation, what motivate investigation and questioning of the quality of these products from the nutritional point of view. It was found that the products surveyed in major supermarkets in the Recife metropolitan region meet the yoghurt labeling rules laid down in the Resolution ANVISA RDC nº360/2003, and the Identity and Quality Standards (PIQ) to fermented milks, established by MAPA in Resolution nº5/2000.

  • Full Article
The purpose of the work described in this paper is to improve the assessment of the safety analyses for railway transport systems in France. The modes of reasoning which are used in the context of safety analysis and the very nature of knowledge about safety mean that a conventional computing solution is unsuitable and the utilization of artificial intelligence techniques would seem to be more appropriate. The approach which was adopted in order to design and implement an assistance tool for safety analysis involved the following two main activities...............

Expression of Genetically Engineered Chitinase Gene of Pyrococcus furiosus

  • Abstract

  • Full Article
Wild-type Pyrococcus furiosus is most likely unable to grow on chitin in the natural biotope due to a nucleotide insertion which separates the chitinase gene into two ORFs, whereas a genetically engineered strain with the deleted nucleotide is able to grow on chitin. In the latest studies, the recombinant enzyme activity against the crystal chitins was examined. But there are still some conflictions. In our study, to shed a light on whether the construct composed of a catalytic domain and a chitin binding domain show any activity against crystalline chitin, the construct was created in the pET 28b (+) expression vector and expressed in Escherichia coli. The chitinase with an approximately 55 kDa molecular weight was determined. The activity of the enzyme was measured spectrophotometrically. Despite the presence of enzyme activity against the colloidal chitin, no significant activity against the crystal chitin has been measured.

Coding and Indexing Shape Feature using Golomb-Rice Coding for CBIR Applications

  • Abstract

  • Full Article
The Content-Based Image Retrieval application uses large amount of low-level features of images for retrieving relevant images. Numerous low-level features are used for retrieval and among them the shape based feature is important and can be represented in the form of histogram. It is well known that the low-level feature requires more storage space and thus entire content has to be coded, indexed etc. to reduce the storage requirement, feature processing time and accessing time. In this work, indexing and encoding mechanism is proposed to effectively access the feature and represent the feature in lesser space. The bin values are used as reference for reducing the dimension of the histogram...............

  • Full Article
A new material and its associated device which have potential to replace Si and CMOS and can extend the scalability of devices below 22 nm is the carbon nanotube (CNT) and its associated transistor, the carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNTFET). CNT possesses unique properties that make it a promising future material. Similarly, CNTFET is a promising basic building block to complement the existing silicon based MOSFET and can result in the extension of the validity of Moore's law further. This paper presents the state of the art literature related to carbon nanotubes, carbon nanotube field effect transistors and CNTFET based circuit designing. A review of CNTFET based analog and digital circuits has been presented. It has been observed that the use of CNTFET can improve the performance of both analog and digital circuits. The work will be of utmost use to the people working in the field of CNT based analog and digital circuit designing.
