  • Full Article
Image segmentation is the basic step in image Analysis and processing mechanism. The Image is partitioned into multiple segments so that a meaningful image is extracted out and then image is analyzed easily. Many techniques have been developed for the Image segmentation and there has been a constant growth in the research area of image segmentation and with this it has become more important to provide the readers with the growing research on image segmentation, it has become important to categorize the research outcomes and provide readers with an overview of the existing segmentation techniques in each category. In this paper, different image segmentation techniques are reviewed and presents a new region merging based interactive image segmentation method. A novel maximal similarity based region merging mechanism is used to guide the merging process with the help of markers and applying weighted sum method thatautomatically merges the regions that are initially segmented by mean shift segmentation, and then effectively extracts the object contour by labeling all the non-marker regions as either background or foreground and then to predict TPR and FPR for proposed algorithm.

Metamorphic Confirmation through Spectroscopic Analysis of Elements and Minerals Present in the Rock Crystals of Velimalai Hills (Western Ghats)
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Reference
  • Full Article
Rocks and Minerals are inseparable. The natural sources of most of the minerals are Rocks. Due to artificial exploration or natural degradations, the hidden minerals are exposed. The exposed Rocks are in the form of Rock Crystals. The Rock Crystals are subjected to proper investigation to identify the elements and minerals. The area of investigation is Velimalai Hills, which is located at the southern horn of India. Velimalai Hills is the part of Western Ghats. Western Ghats is a long continuous range of Rocks. The Rocks are mainly Metamorphic and Sedimentary in nature. Two thirds of the year, the rocks are exposed to rain. Severe and moderate rain are possible due to the South-West monsoon and North-East monsoon. The natural disintegration or degradation of the Rocks and exposure of minerals are mainly due to rain and flow of high speed water. This flow of water brings minerals from the Rocks to the ground or land. The Velimalai Hills is the Storage spot of many metallic, non-metallic and radioactive elements and minerals. But, No great mineralogical studies or surveys are done so far along this Hill range. Two different samples were taken and the spectroscopic analysis were done. The powdered Rocks samples were subjected to X- ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infra Red and Electron Dispersive Spectroscopic Studies. The XRD analysis, FTIR analysis and EDS analysis collectively showed the presence various elements and minerals in the samples along with adsorbed water. The presence of various elements and minerals were identified and confined. The unequal presence of different Elements and Minerals in the two samples reveal that the rock system is not identical, regular or isotropic which is a major character of a Metamorphic Rock System.

Several papers written by many medical researchers have disclosed that hypertension and its related complications are major health problems not only in Nigeria but in Africa at a large. Thus, this paper attempted at assessing the expected blood pressure level of the hypertensive patients inhabited in Ibadan city and its environments. Precisely, the diastolic blood pressures of 30 randomly selected patients visited University College Hospital, Ibadan between 23/07/2008 and 12/08/2008 for medical check-up are the data used for the assessment, and the evaluation was done using 2- parameter log- normal model. It is deduced from the analysis that the model is deemed fit for the data used following the confirmatory kolmogorov Smirnov one sample test carried out. Also the result of the test disclosed that the expected diastolic blood pressure of patients visited the hospital between the period under study is 91.525 mmhq with a standard deviation of 16.8154 mmhq. Finally, we observed that the expected diastolic blood pressure obtained is greater than that of World Health Organization standard (90mmhq), meaning that the patients under study are hypertensive patients.

Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) has been used to study the surface compositions of three types of nickel based chromium alloys. These alloys are IN600, IN601 and C22. AES analysis indicated the presence of chromium and oxygen on their surfaces. The formation of this chromium oxide surface layer, 3 nm thick, provides excellent corrosion resistance. For alloy C22, no molybdenum was indicated on the surface, but it was found in the alloy bulk. Mo supposedly enhances the pitting resistance of an alloy.

A Median filter is used for eliminating Salt & Pepper Impulse noise and Wiener filter is used for eliminating Gaussian noise. This paper presents a hybrid filter for removal of both types of noises. Two Hybrid filters are presented for eliminating Salt and Pepper noise and Gaussian noise simultaneously from a noisy image. The first filter is a combination of a variant of Median filter and Wiener filter and the second filter is a combination of a variant of Median, Inverse and Wiener filters. The experimental results show that the second filter is an efficient filter for removal of the two mixed noises in terms of retaining the fidelity of the image.

Broadband Signal Noise Reduction by Various Techniques
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Reference
  • Full Article
The Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) was proposed as the fundamental part of the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT). The key feature of EMD is to decompose a signal into so-called intrinsic mode function (IMF). EMD is a method of breaking down a signal without leaving the time domain. The major advantage of the EMD is that the basis functions are derived from the signal itself. The process is useful for analyzing natural signals, which are most often non-linear and non-stationary. Huang and Wu proposed a new Noise-Assigned Data Analysis (NADA) method, known as Ensemble EMD. Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) has been used to recover a signal from observed noisy data. Ensemble EMD (EEMD), which defines the true IMF components as the mean of an ensemble of trials, each consisting of the signal plus a white noise of finite amplitude. In this thesis reduced the broadband signal noise by using various techniques (EMD and EEMD) and compare these techniques at different SNR values. Experimental results show that the EEMD is an efficient techniques for reduce the broadband signal noise at different SNR values.

Cloud Computing provides new vision to the world. The approach of cloud computing is totally different from traditional system. In traditional system for any service, we need purchase, install, maintain, update by own. But in cloud environment we just pay for that service according to our usage basis & here no need to worry about purchase, install, maintenance and update. It is beneficial with respect to cost, flexibility, scalability. We require only good bandwidth network for better performance. Cloud provides different kinds of services like Software as a service, Platform as a service, Infrastructure as a service, Storage as a service etc. But still cloud not fully mature. Cloud computing facing following problems like Data Security, Monitoring and Latency Issues. In this paper we discus basic concept of cloud and review of how Security, Accountability & Load Balancing is achieved using different approaches like Encryption, Trusted Third Party Auditor (TPA) and effective resource utilization to reduce delay for produce output.

Subsidence Hazard Zoning of Jiroft Plain, Southeast Iran
  • Abstract

  • Full Article
This paper deals with subsidence hazard zoning in Jiroft plain which lies at 28º 15´ to 28º 50´ northern latitude and 57º 40´ to 58º 00´eastern longitude in SE Iran. In order to evaluate this hazard, firstly, geological, geomorphological as well as hydrogeological conditions of the plain were studied and, secondly, location and causes of subsided sites were investigated and, lastly, hazard assessment and zoning was undertaken. In this region, clay dehydration as a result of over-exploitation and groundwater-level decline is considered as the cause of subsidence which has inflicted damages to structures, roads and cultivation fields. Subsidence is manifested as open and wide fissures. The main criteria for zoning include the presence or absence of fissures, the extent of water-table drop, the kind of deposits (presence, absence and purity of clays) and the original depth of water table. In general, four zones were separated and mapped which include high, medium and low-hazard zones as well as a hazard-free zone. In the end, land-use recommendations are offered for each zone.

Hardware Efficient Reconfigurable FIR Filter
  • Abstract

Reconfigurability and low complexity are the two key requirements of finite impulse response (FIR) filters employed in multi-standard wireless communication systems. In this paper, two new reconfigurable architectures of low complexity FIR filters are proposed, namely constant shifts method and programmable shifts method. The proposed FIR filter architecture is capable of operating for different word length filter coefficients without any overhead in the hardware circuitry. We show that dynamically reconfigurable filters can be efficiently implemented by using common sub-expression elimination algorithms. Process architecture has been implemented in Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGA.
