Identification of Faults in Power System Using Fuzzy Logic Technique |
Power reliability and quality of electrical power supply is mostly affected by occurrence of faults in transmission/distribution network. To reduce the time of power outages and for the immediate restoration, the fault identification method must be very effective. Under faulty condition system operator receives very complex information difficult to make decision on restoring a tripped feeder to normal operation. Hence, to build the decision making ability effectively, fuzzy logic based fault diagnosis method is presented in this paper. This method can classify and identify the ten types of shunt faults that occur to Radial topology of transmission/distribution network. This method uses three phase feeder current, neutral current and phase voltages as input to the fuzzy inference system (FIS).

Mitigation And Control Of Defeating Jammers Using P-1 Factorization |
The Jamming resistant broadcast communication is crucial for safety-critical applications such as
emergency alert broadcasts or the dissemination of navigation signals in adversarial settings. These applications share the need for guaranteed authenticity and availability of messages which are broadcasted by base stations to a large or unknown number of (potentially untrusted) receivers. Common techniques to counter jamming attacks such as Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum(DSSS) and Frequency Hopping are based on secrets that need to be shared between the sender and the receiver before the start of the communication.......... Voltage Quality Enhancement in an Isolated Power System through Series Compensator |
Voltage sag and harmonic mitigation is one of the most challenging issues for utility industry. This paper deals with improving the voltage quality in an isolated power system with the use of series compensator. The proposed method not only mitigates the effect of voltage sag/swell but also significantly reduces harmonic distortion due to presence of sensitive and non linear load in the network. Series compensator (SC) reduces the harmonics to an acceptable level by injecting harmonic current of same magnitude but of opposite polarity..........

Development Of Test Method For Evaluating Soot Dispersancy Of Diesel Engine Lubricants |
Diesel engine is the preferred prime mover for transport sector because of its higher thermal efficiency and the resultant increased fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. But on the flip side, a diesel engine emits higher level of Particulate Matter (Pm) and Oxides of nitrogen (NOx ). For reducing the NOx emissions, an Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is used, but this in turn increases the particulate matter emissions. During the course of engine operation, the lubricating oil undergoes ingress of some amount of particulate matter / soot through the blow by gases and with engine oil. For addressing this problem, reserve alkalinity, dispersancy, detergency etc. have been incorporated in the engine oil formulation thereby soot remaining dispersed in the engine oil, and the component surfaces are kept clean..........

High-Speed Parallel Vlsi Architecture For Golay Decoder Algorithm |
An efficient algorithm and the VLSI-architecture for fast soft-decision permutation decoding of the (24,12) extended Golay code are presented. The new decoding technique consists of an optimized permutation decoding with kogge stone parity weight measurement. The idea is to implement a fast parallel decoder to correct the most common error patterns (single and double adjacent) and use a slower serial decoder for the rest of the patterns. In this brief, it is shown that the same scheme can be efficiently implemented for the (24,12,8) Golay code. In this case, the properties of the Golay code can be exploited to implement a parallel decoder that corrects single- and double-adjacent errors that is faster and simpler than a single-error correction decoder. The binary Golay code (G23) and extended binary Golay code (G24) are implementation in Spartan-3, Virtex-2 and Virtex-2p high speed with low-latency architecture.

A Note on the Schnute Growth Model |
Mathematical models of growth have been developed a long period of time. Estimating the lag time in the growth process is a practically important problem. Any sigmoidal function can be good illustration for the concept of lag time. The Schnute growth model is described by free parameters, each contributing to the characteristics of the curve: an initial lag or period of slow growth; a period of rapid exponential growth; a period of reduced growth rate. In this note we provide estimates for the one–sided Hausdorff approximation of the step–function by sigmoidal Schnute function - ( new lag t ). Numerical examples, illustrating our results are given, too.

Image Retrieval system is an effective and efficient tool for managing large image databases. In content based image retrieval system, user provides a query image in order to retrieve relevant images stored in the database. Feature extraction is an important step for extracting valuable information from the image. Color is one of the most important low-level features used in most of the content based image retrieval systems. However, image retrieval using only color features often provide very unsatisfactory results because in many cases, images with similar colors do not have similar content.............

Power And Area Optimization of Pulse Latch Shift Register |
This paper discusses the CMOS layout design of power and area optimized pulse latch shift register. This latch is design with transmission gate. The number of transistors requires for design of latch is less using transmission gates. The decrease in number of transistors' and size shrinking at 50 nm technology will reduce the design area. The transmission gate also reduces the number of stray capacitances will improve speed and power dissipation of design. The shift registers are design using edge triggered flip flops but the use of latches for shift register design also optimizes the area. For this design a non overlap clock pulses are used.......

Advanced Technology for Wind Harnessing with Spiral Rotor – Aeroturbines |
Due to the lack of energy resources, we have to search for renewable energy resources to meet our future needs and that to be safe and effective to the environment. Wind power can be used for a clean future. Old wind mill technology has got certain disadvantages like variable frequency and also they are threat to birds. This is a double-helix wind turbine known as aero turbines. Harvesting wind energy from high rise buildings will be possible and production and cost efficiency will be the key factors. The propellers of these aero turbines
resemble an electric beater and don't look like a blade. These aeroturbines will not produce noise pollution and can be installed at the rooftops of high rise buildings........
